An exhibition titled "Transition" by academic painter Vesna Sušić and academic sculptor Rajko Sušić opened this evening at the Tivat Museum and Gallery.
Both the paintings and sculptures we view convey an impression of continuous movement that links them together. As the artist wrote in the catalogue: "I view the portraits in my works as a channel of communication leading to a specific emotion—without which the art object is merely another piece of information. The dialogue I wish to invite directs the observer toward their own inner depths and the perceptions gained through their emotional experience of the world. I believe that a harmonious balance between this dualistic physical, external realm and the spiritual, internal world is what makes each individual's life truly real."
"It is the artist's alter ego, which she presents to the public, revealing her vision and perception. In the paintings, we read happiness, serenity, restlessness, and contemplation—the manifest and the latent, the black and the white," the director pointed out.
The works of sculptor Rajko Sušić depict women, nature, strength, the marine world, fantasy, and geometric forms adorned with openings; these allow the observer to experience the artist's work in their own way by channeling sounds of their choice through the figure.
Regarding Sušić’s sculptures, art historian Nina Pogarčić observes "the extent to which materials—once used and subsequently discarded—can take on a new life in the hands of a true artist. What particularly fascinates me is the fact that he realizes these concepts with incredible ease. His blend of figuration, association, and abstraction, distilled into a unified whole, offers us an exceptionally beautiful and rich aesthetic experience."
In closing, the director quoted writer Junot Díaz: "The whole culture tells you to hurry, while art tells you to take your time. Always listen to art."
