The exhibition "Prominent Serbian Mothers" by academic sculptor Đorđe Zečević from Šabac was ceremoniously opened last night at the "Museum and Gallery" Public Institution in Tivat.
At the opening ceremony, Danijela Đukić, the institution's director, welcomed the attendees, while the exhibition was inaugurated by Metropolitan Joanikije of Montenegro and the Littoral. He spoke of the significance of Serbian mothers who, throughout history, served as pillars of the family and the nation, raising heroes and martyrs who fought for freedom and justice. "Their love and dedication were expressed not only through caring for their children but also through preserving faith, tradition, and national identity. They were not merely biological mothers; they were also spiritual guides who, through their example and faith, shaped generations."
At the opening, academic sculptor Đorđe Zečević addressed the audience, revealing the concept and creative journey behind his relief sculptures. "These works were created over the past five or six years, and it all began quite by chance. One day, as I was entering the house, I saw my daughter—who was eight or nine at the time—intently watching a program dedicated to Milunka Savić. When the show ended, she asked me, 'Why didn't you name me Milunka?' That childlike desire to identify with such a figure prompted me to reflect deeply on who and what we are."
The musical segment of the program featured the "Holy Martyrs of Prevlaka" mixed church choir from Tivat, which performed two songs under the direction of Ivana Komnenović.
The program was hosted by Milica Peričić.
